File this under things that probably wont end well: Kanye West has tapped Miley Cyrus for a collaboration. While pundits are suddenly interested in the phenomenon that is twerking (seriously, folks, its not new despite what countless think pieces are currently stating), the singer thats just now introducing the tawdry dance to Middle America has teamed up with a rapper whos polarized the same audience. After Cyrus deliciously trashy train wreck of a performance at Sundays MTV Video Music Awards, the singer reportedly skipped her own post-VMA party to log studio time for a top-secret collaboration, according to the New York Post. West, who also performed on the telecast, turned out to be the collaborator. Her reps, however, didn’t answer the more important question of who twerked in her honor at the party she skipped.
Hey, it wasn’t all twerking Teddy bears . Case in point, this genuinely sweet interaction between multiple-VMA winners Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and the mercurial Kanye West, which occurred backstage following West’s performance of “Blood on the Leaves” . It’s just a quick conversation between artists, but it shows that, no matter how big Mack & Lewis have gotten, they’re still fans, first and foremost. “Thank you for raising the bar as an artist, appreciate it” Macklemore tells Kanye. He then praised his performance, saying “You killed that sh–.” And despite what you might think about Kanye, he was incredibly gracious, thanking Macklemore for his words, shaking hands with Lewis, and embracing “Same Love” singer Mary Lambert, who gives ‘Ye a kiss on the cheek. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis would win three Moonmen at Sunday’s show, and performed their equality anthem “Same Love” on the VMA stage with an assist from special guest Jennifer Hudson onstage.
Justin Timberlake VS. Kanye West! What Happened When The Two Came Face-To-Face At The VMAs?!?
West’s VMA performance followed a stellar rendition of “Black Skinhead” on “Saturday Night Live” and a somewhat curious video for that track, which featured an animated West who could be controlled by fans. Imagery of men in black hoods flipped the script on KKK-esque visuals, making it little surprise that the song’s name has been stylized as “BLKKK SKKKN HEAD” in recent weeks. This time, West was again introduced with low lighting, but he didn’t perform “Skinhead” as previously expected. Moments before he took the stage, West linked to his website to post the image he used as the backdrop for his performance, a tree that was “used for lynching.” Director Steve McQueen is credited with the photo. Apparently Yeezy did like what he heard, because after listening to JT new tune, Kanye commented: “Man, I got love for Hov, but I ain’t f*cking with that Suit & Tie.” Justin is thick-skinned but he decided to throw a jab back at Kanye while hosting SNL a few weeks later. During his performance of Suit & Tie, he changed up his lyrics a bit and sang the new line: “My hits so sick/Got rappers acting dramatic.” Well at the VMAs on Sunday, Timberlake and West FINALLY came face-to-face backstage! And SHIZ went down! The two mega music stars actually had an HOUR-LONG sit-down to settle their differences and squash their beef! Wowza!!!
